Hello all you film lovers. We've gotten though another year filled with tons of films. Some will tell you 2010 was a bad year for cinema, others wil tell you it was great. In the end it was just another year in a long line of years and with plenty of movies to call attention to. So I decided to call up my friend and former Movie Dictator Club co-host, Chuck Canzoneri, to list our Top 10 Films of 2010 and get to some other points of discussion, including our favourite performances, biggest surprises, and saddest disappointments. The full audio is just over 3 hours long. Yes. It's long. Epic, really. You can listen to it all in the browser here:
You can also download it by clicking here:

Of course, you'll be missing all the great discussion and reasoning for each choice. Corey's Top 10 of 2010 1. *Tie* Shutter Island/Inception 2. Toy Story 3 3. Fish Tank 4. 127 Hours 5. This last week Pixar released Toy Story 3, their 10th hit in a row since the original Toy Story wowed audiences with a new form of animation. In this episode we take the opportunity to look back at the one film in the Pixar catalog that seems to recieve more scorn than admiration: Cars. And because we knew his passion for Pixar we invited Chuck back for a guest spot on the show. We get into all kinds of discussion regarding animation and Pixar. In this case we seem to have talked a little too much actually. You're looking at the longest ever proper episode of the Movie Dictator Club Podcast. Hope you enjoy it.

TV adaptations are much maligned in the film world. This week we had the feature adaptation of the 80s TV show, The A-Team. Inspired by that film James decided to dictate the 2008 film, Speed Racer. We talk tonal fluctuations, the perils of adapting TV to film, and the problems associated with translating the style of a TV show to the much larger screen. We offer up our Double Shots and Further Dictations later in the show.
Show Notes Main Dictation: Speed Racer Double Shot James: The Road, Pitch Black Corey: Polytechnique/Elephant, The First Great Train Robbery Further Dictations Corey: State of Play, The Simpsons Movie, Star Trek (2010) James: Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Stark Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn, Twilight Zone: The Movie Index Intro - 0:00 Main Dictation - 0:58 Double Shot - 27:32 Further Dictation - 47:06 Outro - 59:51 |

Splice came out this past week, and in honor of its Canadian roots I dictated Pontypool. It's a low-budget Canadian horror film that takes place in a basement radio station. Trust me, it's pretty good. We also take that bait and get into a discussion of what makes non-American horror films so much more interesting that the latest American slasher flick or torture porn movie. And as always we give you our Double Shot and Further Dictations.
Show Notes Main Dictation: Pontypool Double Shot Corey: Mystery Team, Party Down James: The Incredible Hulk, Slumdog Millionaire Further Dictations James: The Descent, Eyes Without a Face, Suspiria Corey: The Changeling, Caché, The Loved Ones
Corrections: The main character of Pontypool is named Grant Mazzy. Party Down is on Starz, not HBO.

Sad news fellow dictators. Chuck, the podcast's wonderful co-founder is leaving the show. Unfortunately he actually has a life. Oh well. We still managed to get him to record one more episode. This one, tying in with Jean-Pierre Jeunet and his new film, Micmacs, features a discussion of his earlier film, Alien: Resurrection. We use the opportunity to discuss what went wrong with the film, as well as other strange director picks for other films and franchises. And of course, we'll have our usual Double Shots and Further Dictations for you to chew on. Show Notes Main Dictation: Alien Resurrection Double Shot Chuck: Exit Through the Gift Shop, Nine James: Blind Chance, Gran Torino Corey: M, The Red Shoes Further Dictations Corey: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Young Victoria James: Last of the Mohicans, Dollhouse Chuck: The Exorcist 3, The Beguiled Index Intro - 0:00 Main Dictation - 1:04 Double Shot - 29:24 Further Dictations - 58:11 Outro - 1:16:34 Direct download: Episode_16__Alien_Resurrection_Odd_Director_Choices.mp3 Category:podcasts -- posted at: 5:49 PM |

This week marked the end of an era for television. Lost is over and TV will never be the same again. James and I take a look at the final episode of the series and stroll through our feelings about the series as a whole. It's a long discussion, and the general discussion is far from over, but we felt the need to add our thoughts to the fold. We hope those who enjoyed the finale will enjoy this episode, and we hope the people who didn't like the finale will see things from a different perspective.

On this week's show, Jaame, Chuck and I get all excited with Robin Hood-fever and take a gander at the majesty of Errol Flynn in The Adventures of Robin Hood from 1938. I give you fair warning, the word 'fun' is used far too much, but then, this version of the classic legend is just so damn fun! We also take a look at what we've been watching this week, and we finish it all off with a nice list of swashbucklers to fill your fun-quota and then some. Top Gun. The Danger Zone. It takes my breath away. It takes your breath away. It takes Tarantino's breath away. It's one of the classic Summer blockbusters, and in keeping with Iron Man 2 kicking off Summer 2010, we decided to give it a review. We also have a bit of a surprise for you all. Joining us for the first time is our new co-host, James Ewing. Readers of TheReelists may know him as the guy who has forgotten to continue his Alfred Hitchcock Marathon. We hope the third co-host will be a nice shot in the arm for the Movie Dictator Club Podcast. We've also got our Double Shots, and in Further Dictations we'll be talking about notable movie Summers.
